About the
Hampshire Choral Society
Since 1953, the Hampshire Choral Society (HCS) has brought together community members for the joy of making beautiful music together. Our members enjoy singing, can sing in tune, and are willing to share our commitment to rehearsing and performing fine choral music. Members come from all over Western Massachusetts and Connecticut with a wide variety of musical backgrounds.
We invite singers with prior choral experience to join us and are always eager to welcome singers in every voice part!
We’re a Non-profit Community Chorus
As a 501(c)3 non-profit, community organization, the Hampshire Choral Society thrives on the spirit of cooperation and volunteerism. A volunteer Board of Directors manages the organization in collaboration with our Musical Director.
We Perform Twice a Year
We perform a fall and late spring concert annually. Concerts bring the choir together with professional musicians and typically feature soloists and orchestra.
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings 7:15 - 9:15. We are currently rehearsing at the South Congregational Church in Amherst.
Under Paige Graham’s direction and with Scott Bailey’s accompaniment, the choir recently performed at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hadley. The major work was Felix Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42, which was performed in the original German. We also performed pieces by Georg Frederic Handel and Gwyneth Walker. For information about our concert in November, check here in August.
